AgriLife Extension to conduct Schleicher County training Nov. 19

Texas

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices of Schleicher and Sutton counties will conduct a public continuing education unit training beginning at 8:30 a.m., Nov. 19 in the Schleicher County Civic Center, located just south of Eldorado at 427 U.S. Highway 277 South.

Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered, four in the general category and one in the laws and regulations category.

Cody Bundick, AgriLife Extension agent for Schleicher County, said the speakers are top-notch and the topics timely.

"Prescribed burning will be one of the main topics of the day," Bundick said. "Nick Garza, Texas AgriLife Research senior associate at Sonora, will give a presentation on building a cost-effective skid sprayer which should be of interest to those planning a burn in the coming months."

Other topics and speakers will include:

--Performance Comparison of Wheat, Oats and Triticale, Dr. David Drake, AgriLife Extension agronomist, San Angelo.

--Incorporating Burning into Brush Control Plans, Dr. Charles "Butch" Taylor, superintendent of the Texas AgriLife Research Station at Sonora.

--Efficient Affordable Herbicide Application Equipment: Calibrations and Upkeep, Dr. Allan McGinty, AgriLife Extension range specialist, San Angelo.

Individual pre-registration is $5 by Nov. 17 and $10 thereafter. The fee includes a hamburger lunch.

For more information and to pre-register call the AgriLife Extension office in Schleicher County at 325-853-2132.
