Gelbvieh enthusiasts gather for the 2009 American Royal Gelbvieh and Balancer Show

Gelbvieh enthusiasts exhibited 59 entries in the 2009 American Royal Ring of Gold Gelbvieh and Balancer Show on October 28, 2009 in Kansas City, Mo. Troy Thomas of Harrold, S.D. evaluated the Gelbvieh and Balancer females and bulls that were exhibited by 33 breeders.

Winning the Gelbvieh female show was BVLK U121 Star exhibited by Britney Volek from Highmore, S.D. This November 2008 heifer is sired by ELK Crazy Horse 138P and first won the Gelbvieh senior heifer calf division.

Showing the reserve champion Gelbvieh female was Kolby Perry of Mason, Texas. JDPD Rumor Had It 407U is a February 2008 daughter of RTRM Headline. This heifer was first named the Gelbvieh junior yearling heifer champion.

The grand champion Balancer female was 3G Cowgirl Star 644S exhibited by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. This March 2006 female was also the Balancer cow-calf champion and is sired by JRI Extra Exposure.

The reserve champion Balancer Female was XXB Hypnotiq, a February 2008 daughter of XXB Ludacris 039S ET. This female is owned by Boehler Gelbvieh, Cedar Top Ranch and Taylor Lueking, Orleans, Neb., and first won the Balancer junior yearling division.

Exhibiting the grand champion Gelbvieh bull is D Bar L Land and Livestock of Sylvia, Kan. CIRS Direct Current is a January 2008 son of EGL Fosters L017 ET and was first named the champion junior bull.

John Shearer, Canton, Kan., exhibited the reserve champion Gelbvieh bull, CIRS 278U2. This bull was also the champion senior bull calf and is a November 2008 son of EGL Fosters L017ET

The grand champion Balancer bull was XXB El Duque 306U ET. J J Boehler of Orleans, Neb., exhibited this December 2008 son of Rito 1I2 of 2546 Rito 6I6 and was first named the senior bull calf champion.

Sydney Wilkinson, Model, Colo., exhibited the reserve champion balancer bull. SYD Boondocks Quid 9106 W is a March 2009 bull calf sired by Connealy Whitman and won the spring bull calf division.

Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind., was named the premier exhibitor and premier breeder.
