Dodge City cattle sales report

Dodge City Winter Livestock, Inc., reported receipts of 3,412 head Oct. 28, compared to 3,288 head last week and 2,976 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 300 to 750 pounds were firm to $2 higher and 750 to 1,000 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Heifers at 400 to 750 pounds were steady and 750 to 900 pounds were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter cows were weak to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Trade and demand were moderate. Receipts included 67% over 600 pounds, 29% under 600 pounds and 4% slaughter cows and bulls with 147 head, early. The feeder supply consisted of 54% steers and 46% heifers.

Baby calves: Mixed steers and bulls, per head; 3 head, 190 to 195 lbs., 175.00 to 185.00; individual 245 lbs., 335.00. Heifers, 2 head, 62 lbs., 65.00; individual, 170 lbs., 130.00; 2 head, 217 lbs., 205.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 head, 1295 lbs., middle-aged, second trimester 725.00. Medium and large frame 2, 10 head, 1112 lbs., aged, second trimester 480.00. Large frame 1 to 2, 2 head, 1445 lbs., middle-aged, second trimester, 700.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 2, 4 pair, 1132 lbs., middle-aged with newborn 125-lb. calves, 750.00 per pair.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 44.50 to 48.00; low dressing, 41.50 to 44.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 42.00 to 46.75; individual 48.00; low dressing, 33.50 to 41.75. Lt Lean 31.00 to 33.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 55.00 to 57.50; low dressing, 45.50 to 54.50.
