AdvertisementOKC West livestock sales reportThe OKC West Livestock Market, El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 7,083 head Oct. 28, compared to 6,643 head last week and 7,640 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher. Feeder heifers were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. Steer calves were steady to $2 lower with calves under 500 pounds holding steady. Heifer calves were $1 to $4 lower. Demand was moderate to good for steer calves, light to moderate for heifers. Wheat pasture has yet to show much growth due to cool, wet weather and very little sunshine. Feeder cattle demand improved some as cash fat cattle improved to $88 in the Texas feedyards. Quality was plain to average. The supply consisted of 65% over 600 pounds, 36% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer demand was moderate to good. Demand was moderate for the better quality replacement cows offered. A total of 460 cows and bulls sold with 85% going to packers.
