OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market, El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 7,083 head Oct. 28, compared to 6,643 head last week and 7,640 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher. Feeder heifers were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. Steer calves were steady to $2 lower with calves under 500 pounds holding steady. Heifer calves were $1 to $4 lower. Demand was moderate to good for steer calves, light to moderate for heifers. Wheat pasture has yet to show much growth due to cool, wet weather and very little sunshine. Feeder cattle demand improved some as cash fat cattle improved to $88 in the Texas feedyards. Quality was plain to average. The supply consisted of 65% over 600 pounds, 36% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer demand was moderate to good. Demand was moderate for the better quality replacement cows offered. A total of 460 cows and bulls sold with 85% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 23 head, 1355 to 2185 lbs., 53.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.50 to 60.00; low dressing, 44.50 to 51.00.

Replacement cows: 2 years old, 1000 to 1200 5 to 7 months bred, high quality, 670.00 to 720.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred, average quality, 595.00 to 720.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, high quality, 700.00 to 800.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, high quality, 690.00 to 780.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, average quality, 560.00 to 600.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 1000 to 1100 lbs., with 125- to 170-lb. calves, high blacks, 835.00 to 885.00; 3 to 5 years old, 900 to 1100 lb., with 90- to 150-lb. calves, average quality, 540.00 to 630.00; 5 years old, 800 lbs., with 125-lb. calves, high blacks, 790.00; 5 years old, 1000 lbs., with 60-lb. calves, average quality, 640.00.
