McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,465 head Oct. 27, compared to 3,615 head last week and 2,500 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker cattle were steady to $2 higher. Feeder cattle were steady to $2 lower, but not well established. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Few attractive cattle were in the yards. Receipts included 40% heifers with 17% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Lean slaughter cows were $2 lower Balance of cows and bulls were steady. Good attendance of buyers and active on better offerings, moderate on balance. A total of 335 cows and bulls sold with 65% to packers.

Boners, 33 head, 80 to 85% lean, 985 to 1370 lbs., 44.00 to 47.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 43.50. Lean, 93 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1275 lbs., 38.50 to 42.00; low dressing, 34.50 to 38.00. Light, 64 head, 85 to 90% lean, 550 to 1020 lbs., 34.00 to 37.50; high dressing, 38.00 to 39.00; low dressing, 30.00 to 33.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 17 head, 1385 to 1730 lbs., 54.50 to 58.00; high dressing, 59.00 to 62.50; low dressing, 50.00 to 53.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 1000 to 1035 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 670.00 to 730.00.
