Joplin regional livestock auctionThe Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 4,657 head Oct. 26, compared to 3,900 head last week and 3,711 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 500 pounds were steady to $2 lower, steers over 500 pounds were steady to $2 higher, heifers over 500 pounds were unevenly steady to $3 higher. Demand and supply was moderate. The market gained strength during the day as corn futures turned sharply lower. Farmers and cattlemen were in need of a few days of sunshine as water is standing everywhere, making it difficult to move cattle or harvest crops. The feeder supply included 52% steers, 35% heifers, 13% bulls, with 43% over 600 pounds.
