Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls Sheep and Goat auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 728 head Oct. 27, compared to 493 head last week and 572 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week slaughter lambs were mostly $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs, again, were too few for an accurate comparison. Several larger consignments of slaughter lambs on offer, but slaughter ewes and feeder lambs presented mostly in small drafts. Buyer attendance was moderate with good demand for the slaughter lambs and moderate for the ewes and feeders. Receipts included about 86% slaughter lambs, 6% slaughter ewes, 6% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 8 head, 119 lbs., 92.75; 132 to 144 lbs., 92.50 to 93.25 (92.86); 26 head, 160 lbs., 90.50. Shorn Choice 1 to 3, 7 head, 111 lbs., 91.25. Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 122 to 129 lbs., 90.50 to 92.50 (92.07); 130 to 145 lbs., 90.00 to 92.50 (91.77); 33 head, 160 lbs., 90.00. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 9 head, 120 to 126 lbs., 88.50 to 90.00 (88.98).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 5 head, 162 lbs., 42.00. Good 2 to 4, fleshy, 8 head, 170 to 176 lbs., 35.50 to 39.00 (36.05). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, thin to medium, 9 head, 111 lbs., 26.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 89 lbs., 88.00 blackface; 41 head, 118 lbs., 91.75.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 5 head, 53 to 55 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00 (102.04); 7 head, 66 lbs., 105.00. Selection 2, 4 head, 59 lbs., 65.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 11 head, 107 to 110 lbs., 56.00 to 57.00 (56.55). Selection 2, 24 head, 109 lbs., 60.50. Selection 2 to 3, 5 head, 86 lbs., 30.00.
