Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 4,954 head Oct. 22, compared to 6,734 head last week and 2,925 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week's larger sale, feeder lambs sold mostly $5 to $10 lower with fewer buyers in attendance. Demand was light. Slaughter ewes sold were mostly steady to $3 lower.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 264 head, 148 lbs., 31.25; 241 head, 170 lbs., 31.00. Utility 1 to 2, 152 to 153 lbs., 25.00 to 25.75 (25.55); 22 head, 210 lbs., 24.00. Cull 1 to 2, 311 head, 136 lbs., 14.75.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 65 head, 48 lbs., 109.00; 198 head, 59 lbs., 105.50 to 107.50 (106.96); 62 to 65 lbs., 101.50 to 103.00 (102.49); 71 to 79 lbs., 98.00 to 104.50 (101.49); 81 to 85 lbs., 97.25 to 99.25 (98.20); 94 to 99 lbs., 89.50 to 92.50 (91.92); 103 to 109 lbs., 86.50 to 89.25 (87.48). Medium frame 1 to 2, 72 head, 46 lbs., 94.50; 107 head, 57 lbs., 101.50; 94 head, 79 lbs., 97.75.
