Arkansas livestock auction summary

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending Oct. 22, showed estimated receipts of 1,365 head, compared to 5,989 head last week and 9,644 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold steady to instances of $1 lower. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Feeder steers under 700 pounds, and heifers under 600 pounds sold steady to $2 lower, and weights over 700 pounds sold steady to $2 higher. Feeder bulls sold firm to $4 higher. The supply included 7,020 stocker and feeder calves, 2,330 feeder yearlings, 695 replacement cows, 1,185 slaughter cows and 135 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 39% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 48.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 51.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 39.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 35.00 to 41.00; high dressing, 41.00 to 46.00; low dressing, 28.00 to 35.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 27.00 to 34.00; low dressing, 18.00 to 26.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 50.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 56.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 42.50 to 50.00.
