AdvertisementWet weather continues to slow harvestMissouri Continued wet weather slows harvest as normal temperatures returned across the state during the week ending Oct. 25, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Missouri Field Office, Oct. 26. Some damage was reported to late corn and soybeans from the previous week's hard frost. Corn, soybeans and sorghum harvest only progressed about 5 points last week. Topsoil moisture, statewide, is rated 44 percent adequate, and 56 percent surplus. There were 2.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Fall tillage is 6 percent complete, 22 days behind last year and the normal of 30 percent. Temperatures averaged 2 degrees below average to 3 degrees above average across the state. Rainfall averaged 1.79 inches for the week. The northwest district recorded the most precipitation with 2.20 inches, while the southwest district reported 0.86 of an inch. Oregon, Howell, Carter, Grundy, Clark, and Worth counties reported over 3.00 inches during the week. Ninety-six percent of the corn is mature. Corn harvest is 43 percent complete, 11 days behind last year, and 32 days behind the normal of 80 percent. The moisture content of corn harvested is 19 percent statewide with a range of 16 to 21 percent. Corn condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Ninety-two percent of soybeans have dropped leaves, with 78 percent of the soybeans rated mature. Soybean harvest is 28 percent complete, 5 days behind last year and 17 days behind a normal of 59 percent. Soybean condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 17 percent excellent. Cotton opening bolls is at 90 percent, 22 days behind last year and 25 days behind normal. Cotton harvest is 13 percent, 24 days behind last year and 30 days behind the normal of 70 percent. Cotton condition is 15 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 5 percent excellent, drop of 4 points in good to excellent condition. Rice harvest is 71 percent complete, 15 days behind last year and 21 days behind a normal of 96 percent. Sorghum mature is at 89 percent, 4 days ahead of last year but 12 days behind normal. The sorghum harvest is 28 percent complete, 20 days behind last year and 31 days behind the normal of 69 percent. Sorghum condition is rated 5 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Winter wheat seeding is 20 percent complete, 11 days behind last year and 17 days behind a normal of 56 percent. Emergence is at 14 percent, 5 days behind last year and 10 days behind normal.
