2009 AFA Alliance Forum Nov. 6 and 7On Nov. 6 and 7, young professionals in the agriculture industry will gather to learn through interaction with national industry leaders and discussions with peers at the 2009 AFA Alliance Forum. The theme for this year's Forum is: Cultivating Communication. Uniting Leaders. Professionals in the agriculture and food industry will have an opportunity to examine their roles, gain insight into effective leadership and identify tools for day-to-day use while considering the implications of globalization and environmentalism. Young professionals who attend the AFA Alliance Forum will benefit from industry knowledge seminars featuring: Dr. J.B. Penn, Chief Economist with Deere & Company, and Sara Wyant, Agri-Pulse Communications. Attendees will also participate in personal and professional development sessions featuring Jan Hargrave, janhargrave.com and Charlie Arnot and Jana McGuire with the SHARE program. The Forum includes expert panel discussions and sessions covering the latest topics, issues and opportunities in the agriculture industry. Forum programs have also addressed development topics such as building trust in the work place, unleashing talent, managing people, intergenerational expectations, work-life balance and civic and community leadership. Additionally, the Forum allows Alliance members to mentor, interact and network with over 800 students, industry professionals, and community leaders at the AFA Leader in Agriculture Award Dinner held in conjunction with this annual event. The AFA Alliance, developed in 2001, allows young agriculture professionals across the nation to gather, virtually and physically, to chat about the future of the agriculture industry and common situations they face. This alliance is about more than professional development and hot industry issues. It is about pooling resources from a diverse group of individuals who can help each other become better leaders in the agriculture industry. AFA is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit organization that strives to create partnerships that identify, encourage and support outstanding college men and women preparing for careers in the agriculture and food industry.
