Advertisement2009 Montana Stockgrowers Association convention moving to MetraPark in BillingsMontana The Montana Stockgrowers Association will hold its 125th Annual Convention and Trade Show at a new location this year, the Crowne Plaza hotel and the MetraPark in Billings, Dec. 10 to 12. "We are very excited to be moving to downtown Billings for our convention this year," said Tom Hougen, MSGA president. "We decided to move to the MetraPark so we could expand our Trade Show and have space for indoor equipment displays. The Metra will also allow us to have indoor arena with hands-on demonstrations, like Curt Pate and Ron Gill's 'Effective Stockmanship' clinic." MSGA's convention will be a mix of business meetings, policy discussions, educational seminars, and entertainment. On Dec. 10, MSGA will hold meetings of its executive committee, board of directors, and the trustees of MSGA's Research, Education and Endowment Foundation at the Crowne Plaza hotel. The Grass Conservation Commission, the Montana Hereford Association, the Joint Montana Public Lands Council and Montana Association of Grazing Districts Board, the Montana CattleWomen, the Montana CattleFeeders and the Montana Simmental Association will also meet Dec. 10 at the Crowne Plaza. On Dec. 11, the convention will move to the MetraPark where MSGA's committees (Beef Production & Marketing, Land Use & Environment, Membership Development & Services, and Tax, Finance & Ag Policy) will meet to begin the process of developing policy for the year. Dec. 11 will also include a Montana Ag Safety Recertification program, the Young Stockgrowers caucus, and Montana CattleWomen meetings. The Opening General Session will begin at 3 p.m., and will feature Trent Loos as speaker. The second reading of resolutions will follow along with reports from the committee chairs. The Trade Show grand opening will begin at 6 p.m. On Dec. 12, events will include the Trade Show, Women of the West Fair, and the final reading of resolutions at the MSGA business meeting. The Pfizer Cattlemen's Colleges will take place Dec. 12 and will feature Curt Pate and Ron Gill demonstrating "Effective Stockmanship," a presentation by Galusha, Higgins and Galusha on the estate tax, and seminars on nutrition, antibiotic residue, and reproduction. The convention will conclude with the Grand Finale Banquet Dec. 12. One lucky MSGA member will drive home from convention with ownership of a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup, thanks to a partnership between MSGA and the Montana Ford Dealers. The banquet will also feature a fashion show and auctions of the last MSGA 125th Anniversary Commemorative Brett Badgett bronze, David Graham print and Montana Silversmiths belt buckle.
