Troxel presented Columbia AwardAmong the several esteemed awards presented at the 2009 Columbia National Show and Sale banquet, none is more prestigious than the Silver Bell Award. Not an annual event, this special award has been presented to several prominent breeders instrumental in shaping the Columbia Association. David Troxel of Plainfield, Wis., was added to the list of recipients on June 13 in Tooele, Utah for his lifetime commitment and dedication to the Columbia sheep breed. As a breeder of Columbia sheep for most of his life, Troxel has taken an active role in the Columbia Sheep Breeders Association. He served as a National Board Member for 14 years, two of them serving as Association President. He also served as chairman of the National Columbia Show and Sale twice, always with the goal of raising and promoting a better Columbia sheep. Troxel's proudest moment was consigning the highest selling ram at the 2007 National Sale. Today he leaves the work of showing to his "sheep daughter" and son-in-law and their family, who received the National Champion Ram honors at this year's National Sale. Troxel is also very active in local activities as well, receiving numerous awards for his work with local sheep and agriculture associations and teaching music for 41 years. The Columbia Sheep Breeders Association is proud include David Troxel as recipient of the Silver Bell award.
