Hay trading slow to moderateIn Kansas, the hay trade is slow to moderate. Demand is moderate for dairy and stock cow alfalfa, alfalfa pellets, grinding alfalfa and grass hay, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Nov. 10. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted. Southwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $190-$250; supreme dairy, $125-$130; premium, $115-$130; good, $100-$115. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $85-$95, mostly $90-$95, an instance $100. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $105-$120, ground on truck, $100-$110. For the week ending Nov. 7, 13,156 tons grinding alfalfa and 1,189 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Good bermuda, in large squares, $125, some $150 delivered, in small squares, $210 delivered. Good PM6, in small squares, $150. BMR Sudan, good, in large rounds, $60. Good straw, in large bales, $37.50-$55. South central: Dairy/grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets steady. Movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, in medium squares, $195; Dairy, 65-85 cents/point RFV, Supreme, $120-$140, an instance $150; premium, $110-$130; Stock cow, in medium squares or large rounds, $90-$110. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $65-$80, mostly $70-$75, Utility or wet, $65-$70. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $100-$120. For the week ending Nov. 7, 3,865 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,175 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $143-$160; sun-cured, 17% $157-$160; dehydrated, 17% $205. Southeast: Alfalfa, brome and prairie hay steady. Movement slow to moderate. Horse and goat alfalfa, in medium squares, $140-$200. Premium dairy alfalfa, $135; good, $100-$127.50; Stock cow, in medium, squares, no test $90-$120. Good bluestem, in small squares, $85-$100, mostly $90-$95, in medium and large squares, $60-$90, mostly $75-$80, in large rounds, $40-$60. Mulch, in large rounds, $45-$50.
