Weather allows for fieldwork to progress

New Mexico

There were 7.0 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Nov. 8, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Mexico Field Office, Nov. 9.

Topsoil moisture was 19 percent very short, 39 percent short and 42 percent adequate. Wind damage was 7 percent light. Freeze damage was 19 percent light, 6 percent moderate with 3 percent of winter wheat crops damaged by freeze.

Alfalfa conditions were mostly good to fair with 95 percent of the sixth cutting completed and 61 percent of the seventh cutting completed.

Cotton conditions were mostly fair to good with 99 percent bolls opening and 51 percent harvested.

Corn conditions were mostly good with 99 percent mature and 78 percent of the grain harvested.

Irrigated sorghum conditions were mostly good to fair with 100 percent mature and 41 percent harvested for grain. Dry sorghum conditions ranged from very poor to fair with 88 percent mature and 37 percent harvested for grain.

Irrigated winter wheat conditions were mostly good with 97 percent emerged. Dry winter wheat conditions were mostly good.

Peanut conditions were mostly fair with 73 percent harvested. Chile conditions ranged from fair to excellent with 66 percent of the red chile harvested.
