Weather allows harvest to advanceMissouri Dry, warm conditions during the week ending Nov. 8 allowed producers to return to fieldwork and advanced a harvest that is well behind normal, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Missouri Field Office, Nov. 9. Topsoil moisture, statewide, is rated 79 percent adequate and 21 percent surplus. There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork. Fall tillage is 18 percent complete, 27 days behind last year and 26 days behind the normal of 50 percent. Grain movement from farm to elevator rates 7 percent none, 20 percent light, 43 percent moderate and 30 percent heavy. Off-farm storage availability rates 32 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. On-farm storage availability rates 35 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Temperatures averaged 3 to 4 degrees above average in the southeast district and 7 to 9 degrees above average across the rest of the state. Virtually no rainfall was received during the week across the state. The north-central, west-central and south-central districts had a little precipitation with 0.01 of an inch. Corn harvest is 62 percent complete, 8 days behind last year, and 36 days behind the normal of 89 percent. The moisture content of corn harvested is 18 percent statewide with a range of 15 to 21 percent. Corn condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 17 percent excellent. Ninety-seven percent of the soybeans are rated mature. Soybean harvest advanced 31 points during the week to 64 percent complete, 4 days behind last year and 11 days behind a normal of 82 percent. The northern third and the west-central district showed about a 40 point increase in harvest. Soybean condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Cotton harvest is 33 percent complete, 29 days behind last year and 33 days behind the normal of 84 percent. Cotton condition is 15 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Rice harvest is 92 percent complete, 14 days behind last year and 19 days behind a normal of 99 percent. Sorghum mature is at 97 percent. The sorghum harvest is 55 percent complete, 7 days behind last year and 28 days behind the normal of 84 percent. Sorghum condition is rated 5 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Winter wheat seeding is 38 percent complete, 15 days behind last year and 23 days behind a normal of 80 percent. Emergence is at 21 percent, 14 days behind last year and 20 days behind normal.
