Harvest progress falls further behindColorado Precipitation was well below normal while temperatures were about 7 degrees above the average during the week ending Nov. 8, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, Nov. 9. These conditions allowed producers 6.0 days in the field. However, harvest progress of late season crops fell further behind the average due to the snow received during the last week of October. Winter wheat progressed to 89 percent emerged by the end of the week, 11 percentage points behind the 5-year average. Late season crops continue to be rated in good condition. Sorghum progressed to 44 percent harvested, 23 points behind the average. Corn was 54 percent harvested this week, 19 points behind the 5-year average. Sunflowers, reported at 60 percent harvested, are 21 points behind the average. Dry bean harvest increased to 96 percent complete, 2 points behind the 5- year average, while sugar beets were 95 percent harvested, Conditions for pasture and range across Colorado remained in good condition for the week. The alfalfa crop was rated in mostly good condition with fourth cutting 60 percent complete, lagging behind the 5-year average by 25 percentage points. Livestock in Colorado are rated in good condition. Death losses for cattle and sheep were rated average, while stored feed supplies remained above average for this time of the year.
