CDA names new ICS division directorColorado Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture John Stulp has named Steve Bornmann, of Thornton, as the Colorado Department of Agriculture's Inspection and Consumer Services (ICS) division director. "The Inspection and Consumer Services Division is the hub of our consumer protection programs and Steve has the experience and dedication to help protect Colorado consumers," said Commissioner of Agriculture John Stulp. "He has been a great asset to the department and I'm pleased he has accepted this position." Bornmann, 50, has been employed by CDA since 1987 and has served as the Technical Services Section Chief within ICS since 2006; he begins his duties as ICS Division Director Nov. 2. "The services within the ICS division touch every Colorado citizen and I consider it an honor to serve the state in this capacity," said Bornmann. "Consumers' rights must be protected and I have a passion to promote and safeguard those goals set forth within our programs." The primary goals within ICS include consumer protection, promotion of equity in the marketplace, and animal and human health safety through a number of programs administered by CDA: Anhydrous Ammonia Safety--ensures that this fertilizer product is stored, transported and used by agricultural producers in a safe manner. Biochemistry Laboratory--provides analysis on human and animal food, fertilizers, soil, vegetation, and water. Compost--regulates compost that is distributed in Colorado. Eggs--licenses and inspects egg dealers. Farm Products---regulates businesses that purchase and store agriculture products. Feed--regulates products fed to pets and animals that are produced for human consumption and is part of a nation-wide effort to help ensure the safety of meat, milk and eggs. Fertilizer--regulates fertilizers, soil conditioners and plant amendments sold in Colorado for agricultural and home use. Product labels and advertisements are monitored for false or misleading statements. Home Food Service Plan--regulates sellers of Home Food Service Plans to provide the purchaser protection from unethical and fraudulent sales tactics. Inspections--inspects and investigates a variety of subjects including eggs, price verification, feed, fertilizer, packaging and labeling, and small scales. Meat-Custom Processing--inspects custom processing facilities that process domestic livestock and/or wild game animals for the animal's owners. Measurement Standards--inspects scales and other measuring devices, price verification (scanner) systems, and packages for net quantity and labeling.
