AdvertisementButler celebrates dedication of refurbished agriculture facilitiesKansas Butler Community College filled the barn Oct. 19 when local business leaders and community members showed up to get a peek at the college's newly updated agriculture facilities. Acting Secretary of the Kansas Department of Agriculture Josh Svaty spoke to the attendees, praising Butler for its efforts in preparing students for the future. "A dynamic industry requires dynamic leaders. Meeting these challenges doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes a tremendous investment in education," Svaty said. "It takes this sort of investment and this type of structure to make it happen. And we are here to celebrate an institution that has reached out to its stakeholders to make this investment." With a nationally acclaimed livestock judging team, the nearly $1.2 million renovations are providing current and future ag students with a new barn and storage space, additional classrooms space, student gathering space with wireless internet technology, new furnishings and state-of-the-art technology. "I look at the facility, and the students who are here, and I see a tremendous future," Svaty said. Coupled with a no-interest loan allocated by the Kansas Board of Regents, the Butler Foundation took the lead on securing funds to make the changes possible. "The addition of classrooms, learning laboratory/flex space, and cutting-edge technology is a very valuable resource in providing the ideal setting where students can learn skills and abilities that fit their agriculture educational goals," said Don Gronau, lead agriculture instructor. Ag students from across the country look to Butler as the college of choice when preparing for careers in agriculture. Butler offers programs of study in Agribusiness, Agriculture, Livestock Management and Merchandising, Farm and Ranch Management and Pre-Veterinarian. Giving opportunities are still available.
