Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 435 head Nov. 3, compared to 728 head last week and 434 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs were mostly $1 higher on a light test. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs too few for a meaningful trend. Buyer attendance was good with good demand for the slaughter lambs, while demand for slaughter ewes and feeder lambs was moderate. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs offered in mostly small drafts. Receipts included about 43% slaughter lambs, 20% slaughter ewes, 35% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks. Goats were scarce.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 20 head, 122 lbs., 93.25. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 16 head, 123 lbs., 93.00; 134 to 146 lbs., 93.25 to 94.75 (93.90).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 12 head, 154 to 158 lbs., 39.00 to 40.00 (39.34); 8 head, 148 lbs., 50.00 guant. Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 5 head, 205 to 220 lbs., 35.00 to 38.00 (35.57). Utility 1 to 2, Medium flesh, 14 head, 127 lbs., 26.00. Cull 1, thin, 8 head, 131 lbs., 20.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 85 lbs., 105.00; 78 head, 91 lbs., 95.50. Medium frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 68 lbs., 97.00.
