Tools of the trade

Take more than a sharp eye to the field when doing your crop scouting. The following tools might help make the most of your time in the field.

1. A 10x or 20x magnifying lens.

2. A large knife or garden trowel so you can look under the plants.

3. A plastic bag for samples in case you find something unusual.

4. A report form to write down what you find.

5. A hand-held GPS unit.
