Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls Sheep and Goat auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 520 head May 19, compared to 854 head last week and 671 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Due to light receipts, trends on slaughter lambs and feeder lambs were not possible. Slaughter ewes sold steady to weak on a light test. Receipts included about 8% slaughter lambs, 50% slaughter ewes, 37% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Buyer attendance was good with moderate to good demand.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice 1 to 3, 110 to 118 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00 (110.68).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 171 to 178 lbs., 30.50 to 37.00 (34.50). Good 2 to 4, fleshy; 191 to 192 lbs., 31.50 to 32.00 (31.62). Good 3 to 4, fleshy; 183 to 199 lbs., 34.00 to 38.00 (34.96. Utility 1 to 2, Medium flesh, 13 head, 139 lbs., 29.00; 17 head, 172 to 182 lbs., 21.00 to 22.00 (21.52). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, thin and medium flesh, 22 head, 195 lbs., 19.00. Cull 1, thin, 5 head, 112 to 115 lbs., 10.00 to 14.00 (12.37); 121 to 156 lbs., 10.00 to 14.00 (11.60).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 11 head, 47 lbs., 141.50; 61 to 65 lbs., 130.00 to 134.00 (131.33); 10 head, 74 lbs., 125.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 63 head, 78 lbs., 116.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 21 head, 54 lbs., 146.00; 7 head, 61 lbs., 161.00.
