OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 8,026 head May 20, compared to 6,047 head last week and 7,457 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were nearly steady. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. Feeder cattle in typical late May conditions and mostly fleshy. Stocker steers and steer calves were steady to $2 lower. Stocker heifers and heifer calves were steady to $2 higher, advance on 550 to 625 weights. Demand was moderate for calves with least action on fleshy new crop calves. These selling at about a $10 discount to their weaned counterparts. Weather finally hit a sunny dry spell and farmers busy in the fields cutting hay. The supply included 77% over 600 pounds, and 32% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 to $4 higher. Packer demand was good. Cow sale included several young bred cows that sold to good demand. A total of 500 cows and bulls sold with 32% going to packers.

Lights, 16 head, 85 to 90% lean, 850 to 1000 lbs., 49.50 to 50.00; low dressing, 42.50 to 46.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 16 head, 1300 to 2725 lbs., 66.25 to 69.00; high dressing, 69.00 to 74.50; low dressing, 59.50 to 63.00.

Replacement cows: Heifers, 750 to 950 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, average black 720.00 to 740.00; 3 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average to high black 900.00 to 930.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average black 780.00 to 830.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average to hi black 820.00 to 870.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 750 to 800 lbs., with 50- to 100-lb. calves, average black 1000.00 to 1070.00; 4 to 7 years old, 975 to 1100 lbs., with 75- to 200-lb. calves, average black 1000.00 to 1120.00; 8 to 9 years old, 1050 to 1100 lbs., with 175- to 220-lb. calves, average black 910.00; 10 years old, 1075 lbs., with 175-lb. calves, average black 710.00.
