McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,775 head May 19, compared to 1,015 head last week and 1,985 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week. stocker and feeder steers were mostly steady. Stocker and feeder heifers were steady to $3 higher. Good attendance of buyers. Trade was active. Demand was good. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. The supply included 24% over 600 pounds and 45% heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $4 higher. Trade was active and demand good. A total of 240 cows and bulls with 55% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 16 head, 1295 to 2105 lbs., 65.00 to 68.50; high dressing, 69.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 61.00 to 64.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 6 years old, 1095 to 1465 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average blacks 760.00 to 820.00.
