Farm Survey

County-level cash rent averages released

South Dakota

As part of the 2008 farm bill, USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service will produce annual county-level average cash rents paid for non-irrigated cropland and pastureland. The values in this report are county level estimates of average cash rents paid. These estimates were derived from weighted averages, based on rented acres and cash rents paid by a sample of farmers and ranchers. The values reported are for the 2008 calendar year. Data was collected from October 2008 through January 2009.

Counties with no rental rate published failed to meet statistical standards required for publication. In most cases, not enough reports were received for publication, or too few acres of that

Historical South Dakota cash rents and land values report:

From 1994 through 2008, the South Dakota Field Office of NASS published county level average cash rental rates and land values for South Dakota. This survey was funded by the South Dakota Department of Revenue and has been discontinued.

The survey was designed to provide a simple numeric average of county level cash rents paid and land values. Actual rents, as well as opinions of local rents provided by farmers and ranchers, were used to produce county averages.
