House approves increase in trespassing fines

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)--A bill that dramatically increases the fines for trespassing on farm or ranch land has been overwhelmingly approved by the Oklahoma House.

The House on April 21 passed Senate Bill 1035, which increases the fine for trespassing from $250 to $1,500 for the first offense. A conviction on a second offense would increase the maximum fine from $1,000 to $2,500.

The bill would apply only to land devoted to farming, ranching or forestry purposes.
