AFR sponsors Commercial Cattle Grading scholarship competitionOklahoma American Farmers & Ranchers teamed up with the Midwest Farm Shows again this year to host the Commercial Cattle Grading Contest. This event was held during the Southern Plains Farm Show, April 23. The high teams and individuals in both the 4-H and FFA divisions were awarded scholarships and gift certificates to Langston's. The 30 scholarships awarded at the Commercial Cattle Grading Contest totaled $6,300. Funding for the scholarships came from the Midwest Show Scholarship Programs Inc., in which AFR has and continues to place an investment. AFR president Terry Detrick said, "AFR is very pleased to sponsor this event, as we feel it's important for young people to learn what qualities to look for in feeder and breeding cattle. The knowledge of accurate cattle grading will greatly benefit them as they continue to be involved in the cattle industry." Detrick also encouraged adults to be involved in the event. "Adults can participate as well; it gives them an opportunity to learn from the informational class taught prior to the contest and hone in on their commercial grading skills to help them in their own operation."
