The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,709 head Feb. 27, compared to 3,297 head two weeks ago and 2,230 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.
No accurate trend on feeder cattle due to difference in numbers on offer, compared to last sale reported. However, a weaker undertone was noted. Buyer attendance good with moderate demand. The supply consisted of approximately 20% slaughter cows and bulls, 2% breeding bulls, and 78% feeders. Of the feeder supply 71% steers, 29% heifers, and 40% weighing over 600 pounds.
Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 95 head, 441 lbs., 115.50; 74 head, 470 lbs., 126.00; 502 to 528 lbs., 112.00 to 117.50 (113.22); 562 to 584 lbs., 109.00 to 112.50 (111.04); 138 head, 554 lbs., 121.50 value added; 615 to 635 lbs., 102.50 to 108.00 (105.69) calves; 664 to 684 lbs., 99.00 to 103.25 (101.98) calves; 710 to 737 lbs., 92.00 to 97.75 (94.00); 825 to 840 lbs., 86.75 to 87.75 (87.43); 61 head, 949 lbs., 85.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 411 lbs., 127.00.
Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 47 head, 391 lbs., 109.50; 451 to 470 lbs., 100.50 to 106.00 (105.32); 506 to 545 lbs., 101.50 to 105.00 (103.13); 27 head, 523 lbs., 109.50 value added; 577 to 584 lbs., 94.50 to 99.00 (97.14); 17 head, 559 lbs., 102.00 value added; 604 to 639 lbs., 92.00 to 94.25 (93.62) calves; 663 to 678 lbs., 84.00 to 89.00 (88.06) calves; 10 head, 710 lbs., 87.25.
