TOPEKA, Kan. (AP)--Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has asked for an agricultural disaster designation for Scott County.
Sebelius on March 4 sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack for help in the western Kansas area dealing with crop production losses due to severe weather conditions.
She says drought and high winds have adversely impacted corn, sorghum and wheat production.
A federal disaster designation makes farmers and ranchers eligible for low-interest loans.
