Kansas Angus Association announces 54th Annual Futurity honors

The Kansas Angus Association held its 54th Kansas Angus Futurity on Jan. 23 to 25 in Hutchinson.

Willard Ericson, Marquette, was inducted as the association's newest KAA honorary member. Debbie Lyons Blythe, White City, was elected the 2009 Kansas Angus Association president and Hannah McCabe, Elk City, was crowned Miss Kansas Angus. David Lundgren Jr., Ottawa received the Kenneth and Loraine Moore Memorial Scholarship.

KM Blackbird Lady 40401, an October 2001 daughter of Bon View New Design 878 with a heifer calf at side by Rito 1I2 of 2536 Rito 6I6 consigned by Hannah McCabe, Kim Mac Farms, Elk City, was named supreme champion. Kim Mac Farm, Elk City, exhibited the champion pen female while Bohi Land and Cattle, Wellsville, claimed champion haltered female honors. LTB Ranch, Wellsville, consigned the champion pen of three females and Sandhill Angus, Stafford, led the champion bull. The high selling lot was consigned by McCurry Brothers, Sedgwick. The pick of the entire McCurry Brothers fall heifers sold for $12,000. Thirty-four sale lots averaged $3,036.

In the junior show, Brook Bergkamp, Arlington, claimed grand champion owned female before being awarded the Andy Olson Memorial Supreme Champion Award buckle. Mackenzie Flory, Baldwin City, showed the bred and owned heifer champion while Lauren Prill, Wichita, claimed champion bred and owned bull honors. Hannah McCabe, Elk City, exhibited the champion cow-calf pair and Kyleigh Santee, Langdon, exhibited the champion registered steer.
