Joplin Regional cattle sales

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 4,645 head March 2, compared to 6,030 head last week and 5,566 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 600 pounds and heifers under 500 pounds were $2 to $5 higher. Steers over 600 pounds and heifers over 500 pounds were steady to $2 higher following last week's sharply lower trend. Demand was moderate to good, and supply was moderate. The bulk of the calves and yearlings in medium to thin flesh. Demand was best for calves suitable for summer grazing. The feeder supply included 55% steers, 41% heifers, 4% bulls, with 60% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 375 lbs., 116.00 to 119.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 111.00 to 124.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 101.00 to 118.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 91.00 to 104.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 84.25 to 94.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 84.50 to 86.75; lot 1040 lbs., 76.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00, package thin 119.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 116.00, thin 112.00 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 95.00 to 106.50, thin 105.00 to 109.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 89.00 to 100.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 83.00 to 92.75; 800 to 875 lbs., 81.00 to 87.25.

Feeder Holstein steers: Large frame 3, lot 354 lbs., 66.00; package 524 lbs., 58.50; package 669 lbs., 58.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 275 to 300 lbs., few 103.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 400 to 500 lbs., 95.00 to 105.00, lot thin 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 87.00 to 99.50, lot thin 102.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 82.50 to 90.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 79.50 to 87.25; 800 to 875 lbs., 81.50 to 81.75, lot replacements 82.25.
