Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 443 head March 2, compared to 880 head last week and 482 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady to $1.50 higher. Slaughter bulls were $4 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher. The supply included 254 feeder calves, 100 feeder yearlings, 22 replacement cows, 59 slaughter cows, 8 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 33.00 to 38.50; high dressing, 39.00 to 43.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 31.00 to 35.50; high dressing, 36.00 to 40.00; low dressing, 26.00 to 31.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 37.00 to 41.50; high dressing, 42.00 to 46.50; low dressing, 32.00 to 36.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 53.00 to 57.00; high dressing, 60.00 to 64.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1 315 to 340 lbs., 120.00 to 123.00 (121.44); 353 to 375 lbs., 122.00 to 124.00 (122.99); 400 to 445 lbs., 110.00 to 117.00 (115.08); 455 to 485 lbs., 105.00 to 116.00 (111.79); 500 to 540 lbs., 95.00 to 107.50 (103.85); 550 to 595 lbs., 96.00 to 106.00 (101.71); 600 to 643 lbs., 92.00 to 100.00 (96.71); 660 to 692 lbs., 89.00 to 95.50 (92.28); 713 to 745 lbs., 80.00 to 90.00 (87.08). Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 5 years old, 800 to 1300 lbs., open cows, 55.00 to 63.00; 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1450 lbs., open cows, 31.00 to 45.00; 7+ years old, 700 to 1050 lbs., second and third stage bred, 30.00 to 45.00.
