Amarillo livestock sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,972 head March 3, compared to 899 head last week and 879 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers over 800 pounds and heifers over 750 pounds were steady to $1 lower, lighter yearlings were firm to $3 higher and calves under 600 pounds were steady on a light test. Several loads of reputation 700- to 800-pound steers, predominately black, coming off of wheat, were in the offering. A few of the drafts of cattle coming off of wheat carried moderate-plus flesh. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to firm. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 12% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 2% and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 56% steers and bulls and 44% heifers, with nearly 90% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 106.00 to 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 91.00 to 99.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 90.50 to 96.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 86.75 to 92.50, package 777 lbs., fleshy 86.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 82.50 to 87.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 475 lbs., 93.00 to 106.00; 500 to 525 lbs., 86.00 to 91.00; few 600 to 650 lbs., calves 82.00 to 86.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 86.00 to 87.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 83.50 to 85.00; 900 to 950 lbs., 79.00 to 80.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, part load 785 lbs., 77.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 92.00 to 95.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 87.00 to 93.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 85.50 to 89.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 81.25 to 84.50, 762 to 783 lbs., fleshy 77.50 to 79.50; 825 lbs., 79.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 496 lbs., fleshy 76.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 80.00 to 86.00, package 526 lbs., fleshy 78.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 80.00 to 83.75, 602 to 623 lbs., fleshy 77.00 to 79.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 76.00 to 80.50, package 760 lbs., fleshy 74.50; package 809 lbs., 77.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 675 to 700 lbs., 73.00 to 76.95; load 735 lbs., 75.75; load 807 lbs., 72.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1700 lbs., 43.00 to 44.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 45.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 47.50 to 48.50; low dressing, 44.00 to 45.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 40.00 to 42.50.

Dairy cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1800 lbs., 41.00 to 43.00; high dressing, 43.00 to 45.00; low dressing, 39.00 to 41.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 39.00 to 42.00; high dressing, 42.00 to 43.00; low dressing, 34.00 to 38.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2m individual 2140 lbs., 61.50; dairy, 1400 to 1900 lbs., 52.00 to 53.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 900 to 1400 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, 550.00 to 740.00 per head, 750 to 900 lbs., and short bred young, 450.00 to 530.00 per head.
