Pre-proposal conference for construction companies interested in NBAF
Plans for building the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility are underway, and Kansas construction companies interested in submitting proposals for the project are encouraged to attend an April 7 pre-proposal conference organized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security at Kansas State University.
The NBAF Construction Pre-proposal Conference will be held at 9 a.m., April 7, at the Kansas State University Student Union Auditorium. Attendees will park at Bramlage Coliseum, 1800 College Ave. Shuttle service will be provided from the coliseum to the Student Union beginning at 8 a.m. RSVP for the conference by 3 p.m. CDT on April 3 with Paulette Webster; by e-mail at email@example.com or by phone at 912-554-4613.
Kansas Bioscience Authority president Tom Thornton said the conference is an extraordinary opportunity for Kansas companies.
"This conference will provide practical, actionable insights about how companies can pursue approximately $523 million in contracts associated with the construction of the NBAF. Kansas companies should participate and take full advantage of our state's growing national bioscience leadership," Thornton said.
The NBAF is a $650 million federal laboratory project to be built at Kansas State University. The biocontainment facility will conduct research to protect the American food supply and agriculture economy from foreign animal diseases. Construction will start in 2010, and approximately 1,500 people will be employed during construction. The facility is expected to be commissioned in 2015.
At the pre-proposal conference, the federal contracting officer handling the NBAF construction project will be joined by technical representatives to provide an overview of the procurement process and to answer questions.
