Ft. Robinson to host Nebraska Wildland Fire AcademyNebraska The second annual Nebraska Wildland Fire Academy will be March 21 to 29 at Ft. Robinson State Park near Crawford. The academy offers wildland fire and incident management training using local firefighters to meet the needs of northwest Nebraska firefighters, said Casey McCoy, wildland fire training manager at the Nebraska Forest Service. Classes start at 8 a.m., each day. Early registration is strongly encouraged as class sizes are limited. Cost is $30 and registrations are due March 6. A registration must be received before training begins. "The mission of the Nebraska Wildland Fire Academy is to provide high quality training at little or no cost," McCoy said. Courses include: Basic Firefighting and Wildfire Behavior, Advanced Firefighter Training, Fire Operations in the Urban Interface, Crew Boss (Single Resource), Engine Boss and Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior. An annual Red Card Refresher Training will be available on the evenings of March 21 and 28. Students may attend the annual training required to renew their red card for the 2009 fire season. Current issues are discussed with an emphasis on safety and LCES. Participants also will be required to successfully deploy a fire shelter. Registration for this training is not required but is appreciated. Lodging and meals are available at the park for an additional $15 to $30 per day. Privately owned vehicles also must display a valid Nebraska State Park Permit, which also are available at the park. For more information on Ft.
