Workshop helps Colorado food companies market products

Colorado

From savory sauces and succulent meats to decadent chocolates and tasty snacks, Colorado is home to a variety of food processing businesses. An educational workshop April 23, is designed to help food manufacturers market their locally made products. The workshop is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Community College of Aurora, 16000 E. CentreTech Parkway, Aurora, Colo.

"This workshop is perfect for both start-up and existing food processing businesses," said Wendy White, marketing specialist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. "The information covered helps companies get started and helps them identify effective ways to promote their products."

The one-day workshop features practical advice from professionals in brand building, promotions, marketing plan development, grant writing, retail marketing, business growth, food processing requirements and labeling. In addition to the presentations, participants will also have an opportunity to learn from their peers by networking with representatives from other food processing companies.

Speakers include Dawn Thilmany, Colorado State University; John Recca, BrandWerks Group; Tom Lipetzky, Colorado Department of Agriculture; Sally Haines, Colorado Farmers' Market Association; Lauren Evans, Whole Foods Market; C Marden, Shamrock Foods; Kelley McNeir, Mile High Marketplace; Dan Rifkin, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment; Joslyn Green; Craig Lieberman, 34°; Rebekah Spetnagel and Julie Bush, On The Menu; Jeff Putt and Peter Franz, DeLine Box Company; and Chuck Hahn, Aurora Business Development Center.

The registration fee is $35 per person if postmarked by April 10 and $45 after the deadline. Registration includes the program, workshop materials, continental breakfast and lunch.
