Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 488 head Feb. 24, compared to 500 head last week and 648 head last year, according to the USDA to South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, wooled slaughter lambs sold $2 to $4 higher. Slaughter ewes sold steady with last week's light receipts. Feeder lambs too few to test. Buyer attendance was good with good demand. Buyers showed good to very good demand for all classes of sheep and goats for the upcoming holiday seasons. There were none of the major packers present. Receipts included about 36% slaughter lambs, 48% slaughter ewes and the balance was feeder lambs, bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 20 head, 128 lbs., 98.25; 136 to 142 lbs., 94.50 to 97.75 (96.65). Wooled, Good and Choice 1 to 2, 106 to 107 lbs., 104.00 to 105.50 (104.28); 111 to 118 lbs., 101.50 to 105.00 (102.09).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 10 head, 136 to 148 lbs., 30.00 to 34.00 (31.92). Good 2 to 4, fleshy, 164 to 199 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00 (43.16). Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 6 head, 208 to 215 lbs., 34.00 to 36.00 (34.98). Utility 1 to 2, Medium flesh, 133 to 150 lbs., 24.00 to 26.00 (25.16). Cull 1, thin, 7 head, 131 lbs., 16.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 92 lbs., 106.00; 10 head, 106 lbs., 94.50.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 9 head, 48 lbs., 141.00; 7 head, 55 lbs., 133.00 to 138.00 (137.29).

Slaughter yearlings: Selection 1, 8 head, 64 lbs., 100.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 8 head, 98 to 116 lbs., 58.50 to 63.50 (60.18). Selection 1 to 2, 10 head, 104 lbs., 52.00
