New ODAFF web tool helps determine which businesses are affected by coming EPA ruleOklahoma In August the EPA will require certain commercial pesticide handlers to have secondary containment pads for storage purposes. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry has developed an easy to follow questionnaire to help businesses determine whether they are affected by the new rule. The flow chart, yes-and-no form is located on the agency's website and the direct link is www.ag.ok.gov/pesticide. ODAFF's Consumer Protection Services Division created the site to help businesses determine if they need to build containment pads or take other action. "The new regulations that go into effect this coming August will not apply to the majority of Oklahoma pesticide applicators and will not affect producers who simply use pesticides at all," said Sancho Dickinson, CPS division director. "We hope this will help our pesticide companies remain in compliance with the federal rules." The rule will apply to facilities where bulk pesticides are stored or transferred. Pesticide containment at commercial facilities has not been a source of problems or danger but the federal agency is being proactive with the new rule, he said. The rules are aimed at companies that store 500 gallons or more of liquid pesticide or 4,000 pounds or more of dry pesticides.
