National Limousin Sale averages more than $7,200
The National Limousin Sale was Jan. 12 in the Beef Palace Auction Arena at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colo. The 22.25 live lots grossed $162,645 for a $7,229 average. In addition, five embryo lots averaged $2,000.
Class averages were as follows: 3.25 bulls--$21,600; one planned mating--$5,500; six bred females--$4,833; and 12 open heifers--$4,829.
The top seller was the People's Choice champion purebred bull. Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., and Counsil Family Limousin, Madisonville, Texas, consigned CFLX Wild Card--a Feb. 3, 2008, son of DHVO Deuce 132R. He sold to a syndicate of nine buyers for $45,000.
Rounding out the top five sellers were the following.
--TMCK Angel 40T (a March 7, 2007, purebred daughter of LESF Asphalt 9N), consigned by Tubmill Creek Farms, New Florence, Pa., sold to Justice Family Farms, Beckley, W.Va., for $14,000.
--The People's Choice champion purebred female, SBLX True Love 918T (a Sept. 8, 2007, daughter of GPFF Blaque Rulon), sold to Deer Valley Farm, Fayetteville, Tenn., and Magness Land and Cattle for $9,000. Sugar Bush Limousin, Allen, Mich., consigned her.
--LMCC Gone Baby Gone 28U (a March 12, 2008, purebred daughter of LESF Asphalt 9N), consigned by Cori Harrison, Minier, Ill., sold to Lance Schoenbine, Auburn, Mich., for $9,000.
--One-third interest in the People's Choice reserve champion Lim-Flex bull, YRTX Uptown Midland 53U (a Jan. 15, 2008, son of BR Midland out of ANLC Katnip 0780K), consigned by Brandon Rogers, Wichita Falls, Texas, sold to Sun Up Limousin, Kiowa, Okla., for $8,500.
The People's Choice reserve champion purebred bull, Schilling's Unforgiven, sold to Baker Limousin Farms, Fulton, Mo., for $7,900. Schilling Cattle, Edson, Kan., consigned the Feb. 17, 2008, son of Schilling's Senor.
The People's Choice reserve champion purebred female, DJ Unsolved Mystery, sold to Enright Farms, Renfrew, Ontario, for $8,000. DJ Limousin, Port Orchard, Wash., consigned the Jan. 27, 2008, daughter of DHVO Deuce 132R.
The People's Choice champion Lim-Flex female, MCBN Toccara Brown 720T, sold to Massey Limousin, London, Ky., for $6,000. Brown Land and Cattle Co., Diamond, Mo., consigned the Oct. 19, 2007, daughter of BR Midland out of LVLS 408H.
The People's Choice reserve champion Lim-Flex female, Logan Taylor 1201T, sold to Edwards' Limousin Cattle, Beulaville, N.C., for $5,000. Pinegar Limousin, Springfield, Mo., consigned the Dec. 3, 2007, daughter of KRVN Newsbeat 164N out of EXAR Blackbird 8364.
As a special postscript to the sale, Etherton Farms, Dawson, Ill., donated a Lim-Flex heifer to raise funds for Waylon "Bub" Miller, Lockwood, Mo., who is battling cancer. Several groups of Miller's friends purchased and donated back EF Untried--a May 1, 2008, daughter of JCL Lodestar 27L out of HF B/R Ruby Of Tiffany--to raise more than $24,000.
The final purchasers, Bob and Gwen Minerich of Minerich Land and Cattle Co., Richmond, Ky., announced they were giving the heifer to the Miller family. Lathrop Livestock Transportation, Dundee, Ill., offered to deliver her free of charge; and Great American Insurance Group, Sycamore, Ill., donated 30 days of coverage for her.
The North American Limousin Foundation hosted the National Limousin Sale. American Cattle Services, Chattanooga, Okla.; R&R Marketing Co., Thompson's Station, Tenn.; and KK Seedstock Consultants, Richmond, Va., managed it. Grassroots Genetics and Consulting, Holts Summit, Mo., served as sales consultant. C.K. "Sonny" Booth, Miami, Okla., was the auctioneer.
