NALF presents Medals of Excellence

Attendees at the North American Limousin Foundation Member Social on Jan. 11 in Denver, Colo., learned the final standings for the 2008 Medal of Excellence show program. The MOE points system gives attention to show-winning animals, their sires and their dams on an annual, calendar-year basis.

With 2,380 points from 69 prize-winning progeny, GPFF Blaque Rulon earned the gold-medal honors among the breed's sires for Kervin Cattle Co., Winnfield, La. The silver medal went to Express Ranches, Yukon, Okla.; Heart Felt Farms, Gettysburg, Pa.; and Tubmill Creek Farms, New Florence, Pa., for LESF Asphalt 9N, which earned 2,226 points from 58 progeny. Those same three enterprises, plus Ratliff's Cherry Creek Farms, Westphalia, Kan., shared the bronze medal for the 1,376 points Carrousels Pure Power received from 34 progeny.

In the dams' point standings, EXLR Luvly 7127N--owned by Express Ranches; Summers Limousin, Independence, Mo.; and Tubmill Creek Farms--won the gold medal with 679 points from seven progeny. With 466 points from two progeny, CLLL Keiko earned the silver medal for Counsil Family Limousin, Madisonville, Texas. The bronze medal went to Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., and DJ Limousin, Port Orchard, Wash., for MAGS Manda's 267 points from eight prize-winning progeny.

Nearly 200 purebred Limousin bulls earned MOE points in 2008. The gold-medal winner was CFLX Black Chap, owned by Counsil Family Limousin and CC's Delight Limousin, Jacksonville, Mo., with 286 points from eight shows. Express Ranches and Tubmill Creek Farms shared the silver medal for the 242 points that EXLR Saturn 040S earned at five shows. Claiming the bronze with 177 points from three shows was EXLR Total Impact 054T, owned by Express Ranches and Deer Valley Farm, Fayetteville, Tenn.

The 2008 list of purebred Limousin females with MOE points included 595 head. The gold-medal winner, with 208 points from seven shows, was 3G Twisted Sister 769T, owned by Mark Blake, Earl Park, Ind. The silver medal went to CFLX Keiko 066T, owned by Blane Counsil, Madisonville, Texas, with 180 points from seven shows. EXLR Luvly 010T had 175 points from five shows, earning the bronze medal for Express Ranches, Summers Limousin and Tubmill Creek Farms.

In the Lim-Flex MOE points race, 36 of the hybrid bulls made the list. The gold medal went to EF Take Down 101T, owned by Counsil Family Limousin and Austen Etherton, Dawson, Ill., with 217 points from seven shows. Express Ranches and the Glebe Limousin Farm, Charles City, Va., shared the silver medal that EXLR Southpaw 835S earned with 190 points from four shows. Claiming the bronze with 168 points from three shows was MAGS Scotland, owned by Magness Land and Cattle.

Among the 108 Lim-Flex females on the 2008 MOE list, 213 points from six shows earned the gold medal for EXLR Scotch Cap 191S, owned by Corinne Harrison, Minier, Ill. The silver medal went to AUTO Rebeca 292S, owned by Pinegar Limousin, Springfield, Mo., for 201 points from five shows. Sennett Emblynette 723T had 174 points from three shows, earning the bronze for Ellie Sennett, Waynetown, Ind.

In the first year for keeping a separate tally for fullblood animals, eight of those bulls garnered points. The gold medal went to CWBL Independence, owned by Cody Beach, Bristow, Okla., with 65 points from two shows. Stone Valley Limousin, Cashion, Okla., took home the silver medal that CFSV Polled Excel 315S earned with 60 points from one show. Claiming the bronze with 40 points from one show was SVL Polled Exclusive 412T, owned by Britt Limousin Ranch, Seminole, Okla.

The list of fullblood Limousin females with MOE points included 31 head. All three top spots belonged to Cedar Creek Ranch, Thornfield, Mo. With 87 points from two shows, CCRA Lady Nova 56N took the gold medal. The silver medal went to CCRA Lady Nora 56S, with 73 points from two shows. CCRA Taboo 08T had 67 points from two shows, earning the bronze medal.
