Springfield dairy cattle sales

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 408 head May 26, compared to 917 head last month and 926 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last month, demand was moderate and supply was light and included 10% springer heifers, 10% bred heifers, 45% open heifers, 5% fresh cows, 7% bred and springer cows, and 7% calves. Dairy cattle were Holsteins unless noted otherwise. Prices were per head.

Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme 1200.00 to 1500.00, Jersey pair 990.00 to 1100.00, Approved 1000.00 to 1135.00, Crossbreds 935.00 to 1150.00; Medium 900.00 to 970.00. Heifers, bred three to six months, Supreme pair 1210.00 to 1320.00; Approved 1000.00 to 1130.00; Medium 810.00 to 985.00. Heifers Bred one to three months, scarce. Open heifers, Approved 200 to 300 lbs., 350.00 to 500.00, Jerseys 340.00 to 440.00, Crossbreds 250.00 to 430.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 510.00 to 650.00, Crossbreds 480.00 to 500.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 450.00 to 590.00, Jerseys 360.00 to 480.00, Crossbreds 450.00 to 610.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 600.00 to 755.00, Crossbreds 350.00 to 640.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 790.00 to 920.00, Crossbreds 680.00 to 740.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 870.00 to 1025.00. Medium 300 to 400 lbs., 310.00 to 360.00; 400 to 500 lbs., Crossbreds 300.00 to 380.00; 600 to 700 lbs., Crossbreds 470.00 to 550.00; 700 to 800 lbs., Crossbreds 490.00 to 650.00.

Replacement cows: Fresh cows, Supreme Individual 1400.00; Approved 900.00 to 1175.0; Medium Crossbreds 600.00 to 725.00; Common 475.00 to 600.00, Crossbreds 480.00 to 690.00. Springer cows: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme 1290.00 to 1500.00; Medium 700.00 to 850.00. Cows, bred one to six months, Supreme Individual 1220.00; Approved 910.00 to 1060.00.

Baby calves: Holstein heifers 200.00 to 415.00. Holstein bulls 40.00 to 95.00. Crossbred heifers 225.00 to 370.00. Crossbred bulls 25.00 to 60.00.
