Horse deaths caused by botulismCASPER, Wyo. (AP)--A Casper veterinarian has confirmed that a dozen horses that died in a pasture west of the city last month were killed by botulism. Dr. George Marble says three horses were dead on April 10 when the ranch owner called him and he found two more that weren't able to walk. Within two days, all 12 of the rancher's horses had died or had to be euthanized. Almost all of the horses suffered paralysis of the legs and tongue, both typical signs of botulism. Marble says no other area pastures were affected by the toxin, which could have been in the hay the horses had been eating.
