Texas A&M instructor received Diversity Service AwardTexas Dr. Manuel Pintildea Jr., a faculty member in Texas A&M University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, received a Diversity Service Award in ceremonies recently. The award is presented by the university's department of multicultural services. It is sponsored by that department, the Office of the Vice President of Diversity, the department of disability services, Aggie Allies and the Student Government Association Diversity Commission. Pintildea is an associate professor in the department of agricultural leadership, education and communications. He also is project director for the Hispanic Leadership Program in Agriculture and the Environment and project director for the Sloan Foundation Minority Ph.D. Program. Pintildea was honored in part for his work in creating the Hispanic Leadership Program in Agriculture and the Environment. The program's goal is to increase the number of Hispanic leaders in governmental and non-governmental organizations, colleges and universities, and private industries related to agriculture and the environment. It is a collaborative effort that includes the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Forest Service, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, the University of Texas-San Antonio and the University of Texas-Pan American. "Dr. Pintildea's passion is reflected in his daily interaction with his students who participate in the program," said Dr. Jack Elliott, professor and head of the department of agricultural leadership, education and communications. "The greatest gift a professor can give students is time. Manuel not only gives students his time, but he makes each student feel important, special and a part of his professional family. He is the most deserving faculty member to receive this award." "The Diversity Service Awards acknowledge and honor the efforts of students, faculty and staff who strive to promote understanding and appreciation of diversity in its multitude of forms at Texas A&M University," according to the multicultural services department website. Awards are presented annually to students, staff, faculty, student organizations and teams. The award includes a recognition ceremony, a certificate and $300.
