Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention honors ag advocatesWyoming At the Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show, held in Gillette June 3 to 6, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association honored a number of outstanding agriculture advocates. Eric Peterson with the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service was awarded the WSGA Outstanding Range Professional Award. This award is given in recognition of the valuable contribution to the livestock industry made by range professionals who exemplify high professional standards coupled with a dedication to building strong working relationships with livestock producers. WSGA awarded the Guardian of the Grasslands Award to Senator John Hines, R-Gillette. This award is given to an individual who has put a great deal of time and effort into preserving Wyoming's agriculture industry. "Since 1985 Senator Hines has been a champion for agriculture in the Wyoming legislature and has always looked out for our interests," says Jim Magagna, WSGA Executive Vice President. Senator Hines is the Majority Floor Leader of the Wyoming State Senate. WSGA also awarded Rocky and Nancy Foy the 2009 Environmental Stewardship Award, an award given annually to a family that has exemplified good stewardship of the land. The Foy family also received the Leopold Conservation Award given by the Wisconsin-based Sand County Foundation and sponsored by EnCana Oil and Gas USA.
