Garden tours offered free to the public

Oklahoma

The Oklahoma County Master Gardeners will offer tours of their teaching gardens, along with garden advice and demonstrations, June 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Master Gardeners Teaching Garden is located at 930 N. Portland and includes a wide variety of special plantings, gardens and even raised-bed arrangements.

"We've been working on our Teaching Garden for several years now," commented Ray Ridlen, Horticulture Educator for the OSU Cooperative Extension Service and advisor to the Master Gardener program. "What we want to show residents is what is possible to grow and sustain in Oklahoma's climate, as well as give them some ideas about what to do in their own gardens and landscapes."

In addition to the tours, Master Gardeners will also host a plant and special tools sale, which will help finance their many volunteer projects throughout the upcoming year.

Last year, Oklahoma County Master Gardeners donated more than 30,000 hours to their communities, which included working to beautify public parks, landscapes at schools, nursing homes and other government buildings, as well as teaching throughout the county to help residents understand basic gardening principals.
