Topeka means family fun
This bustling city is one of America's most family friendly; and, summer is a great time to check out shopping, attractions, galleries, museums, theater, parks, and one of the fastest racetracks in the country.
Heartland Park, home of the fastest 1/4 mile drag strip around, an exciting dirt track and the challenging 2.5-mile road course runs a full schedule of events from April through September.
This summer, Heartland Park Topeka has added some new and exciting events for the entire family: American Drag Racing Independence Day Drags on July 3 and 4 and AMA Superbike Series July 30 through August 2.
The National Guard American Drag Racing League is the nation's premier sanctioning body for the sport of 1/8 mile drag racing. Tickets are free but there is a $10 parking fee--the gateway to two full days of fun, music and racing. Topeka is one of only 10 National Guard ADRL tour events in the Untied States this season.
Then July 30 through August 2, American Motorcycle Association brings the Superbike Series to Heartland Park. The best motorcycle road racers will be testing their mettle at speeds up to 190 miles per hour on the 2.5-mile road course. See them live and up close with the family.
Summer Saturday nights the Dirt Track at Heartland Park is the place to be. The Heartland Park Topeka Dirt Track Points Series (HPTDTPS) runs weekly with four different classes: Modifieds, Champ Mods, factory stocks, and Hobby Stocks. Points are earned each weekend. And at the end of the year, a Track Champion will be crowned in every class.
Perhaps, while the guys head to the track, the ladies would like something quieter. There are plenty of ways for you girls to pamper yourselves. How about a spa treatment to prepare for a shopping excursion in some of Topeka's unique boutiques and malls? The call of handmade candy as you cruise downtown could bump you off a diet course--but there is plenty more to see if you have the will power.
Topeka is known for its many art galleries and museums. A visit through those captivating collections is soothing and relaxing. And don't miss the Kansas State Capitol. The beautiful and distinctive architectural features in the Senate Chambers make it one of the most elaborate in the country. The Capitol building is well known for Kansan John Stuart Curry's dramatic and controversial murals of a fierce John Brown and the anti-slavery movement in Kansas.
For the adventurous, take in the 296 step guided tour through the amazing marble and glass paneled Capitol dome to the balcony overlooking the city.
Other fun and interesting Topeka family destinations include The Kansas State Museum of History, Old Prairie Town, and the Brown V Board of Education National Historic Site.
