TDA announces grant programsTexas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples May 20 announced the GO TEXAN Rural Community Bootstrap Bucks and Hometown STARS grant programs are accepting applications for events occurring Sept. 1 to Aug. 31, 2010. "These grants will assist rural Texas communities in promoting their many wonderful local offerings," Commissioner Staples said. "Rural Texas is vital to the overall health of our state's economy, and with the success of our united GO TEXAN Rural Community Program members, we can be assured of future rewards for all of Texas." As part of the GO TEXAN Rural Community Program, Bootstrap Bucks and Hometown STARS grants are designed to help rural communities showcase and promote their events in an effort to attract visitors from around the world. Bootstrap Bucks grants are awarded based on applications submitted to TDA. Selected community members will receive up to $2,500 in reimbursable funds to help leverage the dollars available to directly promote a local tourism event or festival. Recipients can use the awarded reimbursable funds for promotional items including large signage, posters, newspaper and magazine advertisements, and radio and television spots. Hometown STARS is a competitive dollar-for-dollar matching reimbursement program available to GO TEXAN Rural Community Program certified members. Eligible communities apply for funds by submitting a tourism event proposal to TDA. Proposals are reviewed and awarded by the Hometown STARS Review Committee composed of TDA representatives. For more information or to apply for the next round of funding, contact Natalie Houghton, TDA's marketing coordinator for rural Texas communities, at natalie.houghton@TexasAgriculture.gov or 512-463-6490 or visit www.gotexan.org.
