Kastl hired to assist with Shorthorn activities

The American Shorthorn Association is proud to announce the hiring of Mackenzie Kastl to fill the roll of the 2009 summer intern. Responsibilities of the intern will mainly be assisting with the planning of the Junior National Shorthorn Show, which this year is in Springfield, Ill. In doing so, Kastl will be primarily responsible for handling the entries coming in for the show, the correspondence with exhibitors, junior board members and with the planning committee from the host state association. There will be opportunities to write press releases, write articles for the Shorthorn Country, design and publish materials for the AJSA, and organize contests throughout the week of activities during Junior Nationals.

"We are excited to have someone as experienced not only in the livestock industry but in public relations as well," comments Amanda Reeson, ASA Director of Communications and Marketing. "Mackenzie brings a list of talents and skills that will be beneficial in the execution of Junior Nationals, and will serve our membership well over the summer."

As a native of Hope, Mich., Kastl grew up as an active member within the livestock industry specifically Quarter Horses, and her family became Shorthorn breeders just a few years ago. Kastl is expected to graduate May 2010 from Michigan State University with a major in communications and specialization in public relations. She has past experience as a communications intern with the Michigan Beef Expo, the project manager of "The Scoop," a publication of the American Angus Association, and an internship with Creative Exchange: McMahon French Promotional Strategy, all giving her unparalleled experience and knowledge which will make her an asset as the summer intern for the ASA.

The mission of the ASA is to contribute to the profitability and quality of life of its members and their customers by maintaining, protecting the vulnerability and enhancing the value of the herd book and performance database for Shorthorn cattle. The ASA is headquartered in Omaha, Neb., and was founded in 1872 with herd book records going back to 1822.
