Hapes honored with two advising awardsTexas Rebecca Hapes, senior academic advisor in the department of entomology at Texas A&M University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has been honored with two awards this spring. Hapes is the recipient of the National Academic Advising Association Region VII Outstanding Academic Advisor-Primary Role Award. The award is the highest honor given by the regional division, which includes academic advisors from colleges and universities in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Hapes also was presented the Ed Guthrie Advisor Award at the Texas A&M University Advisors and Counselors Awards Breakfast earlier this month. This award "recognizes the efforts of faculty and staff members who exemplify former advisor Dr. Ed Guthrie's spirit and concern for students' welfare combined with skillful and insightful advisement," according to the organization. "The award serves as a testament to Ms. Hapes' excellence in the field of academic advising and to her dedication to student success," said Sam Murdock, president-elect of Texas A&M University Advisors and Counselors. Hapes joins three other college advisors honored at a recent awards breakfast. Other honorees are: Ann Williams Alexander, senior academic advisor in the department of recreation, park and tourism sciences; Summer Odom, assistant lecturer in the department of agricultural leadership, education and communications; and Amanda Schwede, senior academic advisor in the department of wildlife and fisheries science. The three also received the President's Award for Academic Advising.
