Springfield livestock auction report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,883 head June 24, compared to 1,958 head last week and 1,494 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 500 pounds were $7 to $10 lower, steers 500 to 800 pounds and 500-weight heifers were $2 to $6 lower, steers over 800 pounds were steady on a light test, heifers over 600 pounds were steady to $2 lower. Holsteins under 700 pounds were steady to $4 lower, over 700 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to light, supply moderate. Weigh-ups were average to full. The calf offering mostly un-weaned and fleshy. Holstein steers were well represented, making up one third of the offering. Hot, humid weather curtailed buyer activity. Fleshy calves and cattle with excess hair were heavily discounted. Cattle futures traded lower with fall feeder cattle contracts suffering triple digit losses. The feeder supply included 27% steers, 33% Holsteins, 28% heifers, 11% bulls, with 51% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 303 lbs., 113.00; package 488 lbs., 107.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 96.00 to 104.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 97.00 to 104.50, 600 to 700 lbs., calves 91.00 to 99.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 92.00 to 93.50, package 765 lbs., fleshy 87.50; package 863 lbs., 89.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 348 lbs., 109.00; 425 to 500 lbs., 90.00 to 99.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 94.50 to 99.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 87.50 to 98.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 85.00 to 93.00; package 926 lbs., 89.50.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, 325 to 350 lbs., 75.00 to 77.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 67.00 to 76.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 65.00 to 72.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 68.00 to 71.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 64.50 to 72.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 67.00 to 71.25; load 917 lbs., 69.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 350 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 91.00 to 94.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 87.00 to 97.50; 600 to 675 lbs., calves 87.50 to 94.50, package fleshy 81.00; package 737 lbs., 84.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 344 lbs., 85.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 82.50 to 92.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 82.50 to 92.00, thin 91.50 to 93.50, package fleshy 80.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 87.00 to 94.00, few fleshy or calves 82.00 to 85.00; 700 to 750 lbs., few 83.00 to 84.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 99.00 to 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 87.50 to 96.00, fleshy 85.00 to 87.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 346 lbs., 99.00; 450 to 475 lbs., 92.00 to 95.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 87.00 to 93.50; package 773 lbs., 84.50. Large frame 1, package 482 lbs., 96.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 75.00 to 80.00; package 667 lbs., 74.50; 700 to 725 lbs., few 86.50 to 87.00.
